To me, this is the ideal makeup bag for every holiday occasion. Whether you’re going out shopping for presents, to a fancy party or a casual get together with family, you can create a perfect festive look.
This year is all about a luminous flawless base, so feel free to start off with a primer of choice if you need to, then use a medium to full coverage brightening foundation like Diorskin Star. If you need some more coverage use a concealer, better if brightening.
To set and blur imperfections, use a light reflecting powder. Guerlain Les Voilettes Compact Powder is a really good one, it’s such a luxurious product.
Then sculpt the face (without going crazy) with a matte contouring powder and highlight the high points of the face (without going crazy, again, you don’t want to look like a disco ball) with a golden toned highlighter. Charlotte Tilbury has got you covered with a beautiful compact, that has also got the perfect packaging! You could also add a touch of blush, but that’s up to you.
Moving on to eyes, use an eye primer if you need, as before. The shade of preference for the holiday look is gold shimmer; it can be intensified as much as you want depending on the occasion. For example, during the day, you can dust a little bit of gold or a lighter shade on to your eyelid and be done with it, whereas at night you can go a as smoky as you want with some darker shades in the outer corners of your eyes. A little trick is to lighten up the inner part of your lower lash line with a champagne shimmery shade. The Bobbi Brown Warm Glow Eye Palette is a very expensive limited edition for Christmas palette with nine gorgeous eyeshadows and a killer packaging.
Now it’s time for loads of mascara – and some falsies if you want – because we want very dramatic lashes, especially in the evenings. Lancôme Hypnôse Drama Waterproof mascara is one of my favourites.
The best bit is the classic red lip. To make it last longer, I suggest priming the lips with something like Mac Prep + Prime which softens your lips but also makes them a little sticky to help the product to adhere. Choosing a good quality lipstick is also fundamental and Nars nailed it with the Audacious Lipsticks collection. There are 40 shades that all have women names and I chose Rita, which not only is my mum’s name but it’s also a stunning classic red.
Last but not least, nails. Sticking with the red and gold theme, you can choose just one of them or use them both! Essie is my absolute favourite nail polish brand so I would choose a sparkly deep red like Toggle To The Top and/or a metallic gold like Good As Gold.
Happy holidays everyone!
