Bumble and bumble is a well-known hair care brand. A lot of beauty bloggers and vloggers rave about their products so, as always happens, I was excited and curious to try them.
The first time I approached one of their stands I was inside Liberty, in London. I already had an idea about all the ranges of the brand and so on. I was interested in the thickening line as I have very fine hair, but when I looked at the prices I was a little taken aback. I was not expecting that price for that little product. Even my mother – who was with me and is a consistent Kérastase buyer – said it was a bit too much (and it was in pounds!). So I left, a bit annoyed, without buying anything.
Last summer, though, since I had a LookFantastic discount code, I decided to purchase their famous Surf shampoo – as you can see in one of my first blog posts.
The Surf shampoo is part, of course, of the Surf range that started with the even more famous Surf spray. Bloggers and vloggers went crazy for this line, but here is what I think.
1. Let’s start with the packaging. It comes in a thin plastic bottle that you are supposed to squeeze to let the product come out from the cap. As you are reading this, you are probably thinking “what’s new?”. Well, you really need to squeeze hard after you have already used it a few times: the plastic is too thin and it doesn’t come back to its original shape. Do not let the bottle sit upside down because the shampoo will leak through the cap. In general, low quality packaging.
2. Bad packaging doesn’t necessarily make a bad product, right? The shampoo itself smells good, not heavenly, but it does smell like clean (it’s the best way I can describe it, you know what I mean!). It has a gel-like consistency, it’s not watery at all, so you’d suppose you would need less. Actually, it’s the opposite. As I was massaging it into my hair I felt like I needed more and more because it wasn’t cleaning well my hair.
3. The result. I was expecting wonders from this shampoo, but mostly clean, textured hair, which is what it claims to do. Unfortunately I couldn’t see anything extraordinary. My hair was clean, yes, but not squeaky clean. I couldn’t see any texture whatsoever. And, honestly, my hair didn’t even have the typical good shampoo smell that freshly washed hair have.
In conclusion, I won’t repurchase it, of course. It was a pain in the bum for me to finish this product up. There are far better shampoos out there for a quarter or less of the price. But if you want some advice on high-end hair care, I advice you to try brands like Kérastase or Redken. A bottle of one of their 1L shampoo doesn’t cost much more than a small 250ml Bumble and bumble shampoo.
Have you tried any Bumble and bumble products? Are you loving them? Please, let me know what you think!
